Councillors Praise Penlea House Development During Site Visit

The Mayor of Bridgwater Councillor Kathy Pearce, together with Deputy Mayor, Councillor Leigh Redman, visited the newly completed Penlea House development in the town last week, guided by Homes in Somerset Housing Development Team Leader, Nick, to see first hand the progress and quality of Homes in Somerset’s flagship housing initiative.

The visit highlighted the exceptional finish and environmentally conscious design of the new flats, which include triple glazing, individual heat pumps, and fully accessible ground floor units. These features are expected to significantly reduce energy bills for customers while contributing to Somerset’s carbon reduction goals.

Councillor Redman, who has followed the project since its inception, said: “I have made no secret of my concerns but having seen the new building and had a chance to look around, I was taken aback by the quality of each of the flats. The finish really is great. Add to this the environmental benefits—reduced carbon footprint and significantly improved energy efficiency—I know residents will see reduced energy bills while enjoying high-quality social housing.”

Board member Councillor Pearce echoed the sentiment, adding: “Penlea House is certainly an impressive flagship development for Homes in Somerset. The quality of the finish to the building and flats was impressive, plus all the environmental features will keep bills as low as possible and reduce carbon emissions.”

The visit marks a milestone in the delivery of sustainable, high-quality social housing in Bridgwater and reflects Homes in Somerset’s commitment to community-focused development.
