The opening ceremony of Seaward Way, MineheadEco-Friendly Award for Rainbow Way Development
The Rainbow Way development offers affordable, eco-friendly homes.
A Bridgwater family affected by Motor Neurone Disease has had their lives transformed thanks to an innovative wash pod.
Homes in Somerset customer Inna had been relying on her family, husband Ruslan, and daughters Emilia and Alina to carry her upstairs to the bathroom, as her MND means she cannot walk without aids.
Now, the family, who live on Sydenham Road, say the new pod has changed their lives for the better.
Daughter Emilia said: “Dad was carrying mum upstairs and now he can just wheel her in so she can wash. It’s much safer and she really likes it.”
This is the first wash pod Homes in Somerset has installed for a family thanks to a Disabled Facilities Grant, and it means Inna can shower in her own space, which fits her wheelchair.
Inna said: “It gives me more personal space and a bit of independence. It’s so much better than it was before. Thank you so much.”
Laura Dowsett, Homes in Somerset Housing Officer, said: “It’s great seeing Inna get the new wash pod she deserves, which gives her the space she needs without having to be carried dangerously up the stairs. We will always do our best to support our customers who need specialist adaptations.”
