As we continue to support Antisocial Behaviour (ASB) Awareness Week, we highlight a recent case dealt with by one of our officers.
If you ever feel you need help or are concerned about antisocial behaviour, please get in touch straight away.
A private resident submitted a request for an Anti-Social Behaviour Case Review (formerly known as a Community Trigger) due to persistent disturbances and anti-social behaviour linked to two specific Homes in Somerset addresses in the same neighbourhood.
Homes in Somerset responded swiftly, gaining the trust of local residents who were initially reluctant to come forward due to fears of retaliation. Through careful engagement and reassurance, residents provided vital witness statements that enabled legal action. Working in close partnership with the police, a Closure Order was successfully obtained for one of the addresses.
However, due to known links between the two properties, Homes in Somerset anticipated that the issues might shift to the second address. Proactive tenancy enforcement followed, resulting in a successful injunction against the resident at Address 2 to prevent further anti-social behaviour. Since the injunction was enforced, no further complaints have been received, and peace has been restored to the area.
This case highlights the power of effective partnership working between housing providers, the police, and the local community. By maintaining open lines of communication, building trust with residents, and taking decisive legal action, Homes in Somerset and its partners were able to resolve complex issues and restore safety and wellbeing to the neighbourhood. Continued collaboration and support between agencies and residents are essential in tackling anti-social behaviour. Together, we can create stronger, safer, and more resilient communities where everyone feels secure and respected.
