Damp and Mould Action Awareness Week

This week is Damp and Mould Action and Awareness Week, and we are reminding our customers that there are plenty of resources on our website about what you should do if you are experiencing any issues with damp, mould and condensation.

As of October 27th, Awaab’s Law will come into force for the social housing sector, which makes it a legal obligation for the landlord to address all emergency hazards and all damp and mould hazards that present a significant risk of harm to tenants to fixed timeframes.

Awaab’s Law is in memory of 2-year-old Awaab Ishak, who died tragically in 2020 as a result of a severe respiratory condition due to prolonged exposure to mould in his home.

Living in hazardous conditions can have a substantial impact on people’s health, safety and wellbeing. We at Homes in Somerset take pride in always acting where issues arise, we encourage our customers to continue reporting issues as soon as they are noticed.

There are some measures you can take to prevent damp and mould, which include:

  • Opening windows at night

  • Wiping windows, walls and mirrors to remove condensation after a bath or shower

  • Ensure rooms are adequately ventilated and heated

  • Avoid drying clothes on radiators
