Important Reminder: Update Your Housing Costs for Universal Credit

If you’re a Universal Credit (UC) claimant, it’s essential to update your housing costs to reflect your new rent and service charges, which increased on Monday, April 7, 2025. This step ensures that UC accurately calculates your housing allowance, preventing any payment delays or discrepancies.

Who Needs to Update?

  • All Universal Credit claimants, whether or not you receive the housing element.
  • Even if your rent is paid directly to us, you must still confirm the updated amount.

How to Update Your Housing Costs

You should have received a to-do notification in your UC journal on or near April 7 requesting confirmation of your housing costs. Once you complete this, we will verify the figures with UC, ensuring your payments remain correct and on time.

Why Is This Important?

  • Failure to confirm your rent may result in incorrect payments or missing housing support.
  • UC does not normally backdate changes, so prompt action is necessary to avoid financial loss.
