Homes in Somerset has recorded its lowest ever arrears figures for the year, hitting the top results in the country.
The income team have worked tirelessly all year to see these outstanding results, despite challenges.
Hitting an arrears figure of 0.59% against a target of 2.0% – this is the lowest ever recorded arrears figure for the organisation since it was created. It also far exceeds the top quartile nationally which is 1.64% and is well within the top 25% of the social housing providers who submitted their results to data company Housemark for the month of March 2025.
As well as incredible arrears figure, only three tenants were evicted for rent arrears, of which two had already vacated the properties.
Income Team Leader Ian Richards said: “Rent recovery is often a thankless task and seen as enforcement rather than support, so it can be a challenging environment to work in. The team’s dedication and passion to do what is right for our customers is clearly evident in the results we have achieved. I am thankful and proud of each and every team member, and they should also be proud of themselves. A massive well done!”
Despite some challenges within the last 12 months including the ‘53 week year’ where an additional week’s rent is charged but not covered by Universal Credit, resulting in an increased case load, the HiS team have absolutely met the high level of support our customers expect from us.
