Big Green Week

This week is Big Green Week, where communities come together to tackle climate change and protect nature.

Taking small actions together can really make a difference, and we have a few initiatives at Homes in Somerset that you may not know about, that have a huge impact on our planet.

Firstly, we are committed to making your homes more efficient, and we are working towards getting our homes reach top energy ratings using a process called retrofitting, this is where we look at all the elements in your home that could be make more energy efficient – things like insulation and heating. We are currently rolling out a programme called Decent Homes and Great Estates, worth £5.2 million, which will benefit our customers and the planet. You can read more on that programme on our website.

Secondly, we offer customers who meet certain funding requirements, solar panel (PV) installation, where you can gather energy from sunlight and use this to make your energy bills lower, and your house more environmentally friendly.

Thirdly, we work alongside Burnham and Weston Energy who can provide money and planet-saving advice for our customers, entirely free of charge.

In-house, we do our bit in terms of recycling, and we regularly hold litter picks and skip days so we can keep our communities clear of rubbish to look after habitat and encourage nature.
