Building Safety & Resident Engagement
At Homes in Somerset, keeping our residents safe is at the heart of everything we do. Our approach to building safety is built on openness, accountability, and strong resident involvement. We recognise that residents are our most important partners in maintaining safe homes, and we are committed to giving everyone clear information, meaningful opportunities to be involved, and confidence in the safety of the buildings we manage.
Our Resident Engagement Commitment
Our Building Safety Resident Engagement Policy 2023–2026 sets out how we will actively involve residents in decisions affecting the safety of their homes. This includes:
- Providing clear, accessible information on building safety.
- Offering practical opportunities for residents to take part in shaping safety standards and services.
- Ensuring residents’ views directly influence how we manage and improve our buildings.
- Working transparently, with regular updates and open channels for feedback.
This policy supports the requirements of the Building Safety Act 2022 and forms part of Somerset Council’s wider Building and Resident Health & Safety Strategy, ensuring we meet the highest standards for buildings classified as higher-risk.
Our Registered High-Rise Building
We manage one high-rise residential building, which has been fully registered with the Building Safety Regulator in line with national requirements. This ensures that robust safety measures, oversight, and evidence-based safety case reporting are in place to protect the people who live there.
Working Together for a Safer Future
Building safety is a shared responsibility. We will continue to:
- Communicate openly about risks, actions, and planned improvements.
- Support residents to understand how they can contribute to keeping their building safe.
- Work closely with the Building Safety Regulator, Somerset Council, and our residents to ensure our approach remains strong, transparent, and compliant.
