Watch colleague Caroline on DIY SOS

We’re celebrating the work of one of our selfless colleagues, painter and decorator Caroline Robinson, who this week will appear on BBC One’s DIY SOS, helping with a life-changing renovation in Feniton, in Devon, on Tuesday (September 29).

Back in November Caroline was contacted by the programme, of which she’d already been a part of some years ago, and was asked to once again volunteer her time to help a family in desperate need.

Mum Georgie’s world had been turned upside down when her husband Chris passed away suddenly at home last August, and as a talented carpenter and dedicated father, Chris had been in the middle of renovating the only house the young family could afford.

Georgie was suddenly single handedly raising Felicity, nine, Eliza, seven, who has autism, and Hugo, three, all while living in a half-renovated house, grieving the loss of her partner, and helping care for her mum who has early onset dementia.

Caroline was part of a team tasked with renovating their home in a high-pressure environment, in just ten days.

Caroline said: “The love you feel is just incredible. It’s great doing something like this because everyone is there for the same reason, and we’re up against it because we have to wait for the plaster to dry before we can paint. I took a week off work to help with this, and at the end, when it’s all finished, it was so emotional. It’s life changing for this family, and that’s why I do it.”

DIY SOS invited all trades, volunteers and suppliers to help support the build for this project, and the result is truly heartwarming.

We are grateful to celebrate colleagues like Caroline who understand the importance of what a safe and comfortable home means for families like Georgie’s.
